The Datasphere Initiative firmly believes that any effort to responsibly unlock the value of data for all requires collaboration, network building, partnerships coordinated experimentation. 

Governments, international organizations, businesses, civil society, academia and foundations must work together and coordinate to build data narratives that are helpful, fit-for-purpose and encourage experimentation with regulatory and technological tools. 

Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other emerging technologies, powered by data, raise complex data governance questions, underscoring the need for transparency, accountability, and inclusive design. This is difficult when data-related decisions and their impacts may not be fully understood by governments or practitioners leading to adverse effects on desired development outcomes.

Our work on AI focuses on providing core grounding knowledge and narratives and connecting communities to amplify diverse voices to shape a bold global agenda for our data future in the context of artificial intelligence.

To identify and address the data governance challenges that arise within AI, the Data for Development Network (D4D.net) and the Datasphere Initiative  embarked on consultation via a webinar series to unpack regional experiences and shine a light on the trends, challenges, and opportunities coming out of the Global South, strengthening exchanges between the Global South and the Global North.
