ISOC Youth Standing Group (Youth SG), the Internet Society’s particular interest group that supports and promotes the involvement of young people from around the world in the Internet governance mainstream discussions, public policy, and advocacy, has joined the Datasphere Initiative as an in-kind project partner.

“ISOC Youth Standing Group has been leading amazing work with youth across the globe to engage youth in policy processes around the Internet. We are glad to have this amazing team of young advocates from all over the world joining our #Youth4OurDataFuture project and working together towards our joint mission of leveraging the voices of young people for a better digital future,” said Lorrayne Porciuncula, Executive Director, Datasphere Initiative.

The Datasphere Initiative and ISOC Youth SG plan to collaborate to expand the impact of the #Youth4OurDataFuture project. ISOC Youth SG will join the #Data4Youth Advisory Group and advise on engagement mechanisms for youth, on the relevant issues from the data economy that are affecting youth, and leverage the project’s campaign to reach youth from different regions.

For over 7 years, ISOC Youth SG has empowered the voices of youth all around the world and promoted their involvement in Internet governance, including data-related issues, and its contributions to the #Youth4Data Advisory Group will be invaluable to transforming the data economy.

This partnership will foster collaboration between the two organizations as they drive new and innovative ways to data governance and ensure youth’s voices are at the core of the discussions on the data economy.

“Young people, especially digital natives, represent the majority of Internet users today and they will soon take over as professionals and entrepreneurs. For this reason, youth engagement in policy processes is critical to design a more resilient data framework and to ensure that regulations and policy initiatives are fit for the next generations of users and stakeholders. As we seek to address issues that young people face firsthand and lay the foundation for solutions that actually reflect the needs of younger stakeholders, this collaboration will pave the way for many lawmakers and private companies,” said Veronica Piccolo, Chair, ISOC Youth SG.
