Job Title: Communications Lead

Duration: 6 month contract (renewable) consultancy

Position Overview: The Datasphere Initiative is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic experienced communications professional to support our mission of advancing data-driven solutions and technologies. The Datasphere Initiative Communications Lead will work across the organization to design and deliver creative and engaging communication strategies and outreach plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Policy Communications
- Write and/or edit blogs and video scripts on policy and data governance topics and themes.
- Design and drive the implementation of the organization wide communications strategy
- Design and deliver communications and outreach plans for Datasphere Initiative 2025/2026 projects including, Africa Sandboxes Forum, Global Sandboxes Forum and related publications and policy resources.
- Attend virtual events and report on outcomes
- Design and deliver institutional monthly newsletter.
- Identify news outlets to promote Datasphere Initiative publications and blogs.
- Support event coordination and logistics when needed.
- Social media
- Create engaging social media content (TikTok and Instagram, LinkedIn).
- Help manage social media accounts, including contributing to and implementing strategies to engage audiences.
- Update and monitor social media channels (LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Medium) and support the design and strategic planning of more complex social media campaigns ahead of major events.
- Review social media activity and make suggestions to engage in discussions
- Website
- Manage the Datasphere Initiative website (keeping it updated and useful).
- Create web content for Datasphere Initiative projects and campaigns.
- Design web strategies to engage with policy audiences from government, private sector, civil society and academia.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Public Policy, Government Affairs Communications, or related fields.
- 1-3 years work experience in a relevant position in the digital policy sector
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Outstanding English skills are a requirement and other languages like Spanish, Portuguese and French an asset.
- Interest in policy and technology and data governance issues.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to data accuracy and quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges and technologies.
- Video-editing skills are a plus.
- Familiarity with MailChimp, Google Forms, & WordPress a plus
- Proven track record of managing, developing & executing communication campaigns
