The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) will hold a virtual event on Wednesday, February 25, entitled “International Workshop: Sandbox Experiences in Regulated Sectors.” The event will last three hours, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and will be broadcast on Anatel’s YouTube channel.
Sandbox is an isolated and secure environment in which solutions can be tested under controlled conditions. It is an experimental regulatory space in which Anatel can evaluate new spectrum usage models, emerging technologies (such as massive Internet of Things, private networks, and 5G/6G), artificial intelligence solutions applied to network management, satellite services with innovative models, and dynamic infrastructure sharing.
The environment allows companies to test innovations under the Agency’s supervision, for a limited time and with reduced regulatory requirements. The proposal is to stimulate innovation with legal and technical certainty. In Brazil, there are similar initiatives conducted by the Central Bank, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), and the National Data Protection Agency (ANPD).
The workshop will bring together national and international experts to discuss the use of experimental regulatory environments as a tool for innovation, regulatory modernization, and promotion of competition. The event will address global trends, practical experiences, and ongoing initiatives in Brazil, promoting the exchange of knowledge between regulatory authorities, international organizations, and public institutions.
Advances and perspectives related to the regulatory sandbox within Anatel will also be presented. The initiative seeks to stimulate institutional dialogue and contribute to the development of more flexible, secure, and innovation-oriented regulatory models.
The event is being organized by Anatel’s Superintendence of Planning and Regulation (SPR) and will be attended by the Agency’s advisor and vice president, Alexandre Freire, who will open the event.
