Shaping the data governance debate to maximize the development potential of data – Multistakeholder perspective

On May 10-12 2023, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) held the sixth meeting of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on E-commerce and the Digital Economy.

It focused on “How to make data work for the 2030 Agenda” with an aim to exchange ideas and good practices on how to make data work for the 2030 Agenda with actionable takeaways.

This Intergovernmental Group of Experts aimed to strengthen the work of UNCTAD on information and communications technologies, e-commerce, and the digital economy for development, so as to enhance its ability to support developing countries to engage in and benefit from the evolving digital economy and reduce the digital divide, for the creation of more inclusive knowledge societies.

The substantive agenda items for the session were as follows:

  • How to make data work for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
  • Working Group on Measuring E-commerce and the Digital Economy.

 

Lorrayne Porciuncula, Executive Director of the Datasphere Initiative, spoke in the session “Shaping the data governance debate to maximize the development potential of data – Multistakeholder perspective” on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 10 am, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
