The Africa Law Tech Festival is the largest Law and Tech conference in Africa, convening over 2000 delegates from 40+ countries. It is an annual conference designed to appeal to a wide array of players in the legal & tech space through a multifaceted approach to conferencing.
The Datasphere Initiative hosted a workshop entitled “Africa Forum on Sandboxes for Data Inaugural Workshop: Building Cross-Border Sandboxes”, at the event.
In this workshop, participants received a brief primer on digital integration on the continent and the role cross-border sandboxes can play in advancing it. Local partners presented their perspectives, and participants evaluated examples of certain data governance issues that transcend borders.
Participants were organized into breakout groups for a simulation exercise, in which each group employed a six-step process, outlined in the Sandboxes for Data report, to build a cross-border sandbox aimed at addressing a pre-assigned data governance issue. At the end of the workshop, each group presented their findings and offered their reflections.
