Building on the Datasphere Initiative’s flagship report AI sandboxes: Tools for a new frontier (2025), the “AI sandboxes and the private sector: Emerging models and practices” report aims to support the public and private sectors as they seek to leverage AI sandboxes for responsible innovation.
Through case studies, policy recommendations and analysis of 74 AI sandboxes worldwide, the report highlights how the private sector is taking up several emerging roles in AI sandboxes as participants, technical providers and operators/hosts. It also includes a practical checklist to support business participation in AI regulatory sandboxes.
The launch is taking place on the sidelines of the Datasphere Initiative’s Sandbox Summer School at Lisbon on July 14, 2026.
